Springvale Road Child Care centre is an early learning centre located on the corner of Springvale and Springfield Road, a busy intersection within a residential zone in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs.

The building is composed of two platforms and one gabled shed. The ground floor platform encloses the external garden landscape and internal play spaces, surrounded by secure fences and screening elements that block noise while remaining friendly to the street. The level 1 platform is lifted, floating over the car park, providing sun shielded play spaces. The gable geometry is simple and playful in form while fitting comfortably amongst the neighbouring homes, and literally offers a grand window onto the street from the elevated children’s spaces. Pitched roof portal frames were utilised to provide both presence at a community scale in and a face and place of entry.

The building’s compact and adaptable footprint ensures quality spaces for the children and early learning staff and easy oversight and financial longevity with without compromise, This project follows on from the successful collaboration of One Stanley Terrace and will provide the local community with key infrastructure at a local scale.
