To address health inequality and improve sporting performance and recovery for individuals and groups of all ages, Blacktown City Council sought to create a world-leading facility for athletes and an inclusive place to support lifelong health in the community.
The Blacktown Exercise Sports and Technology Hub (BEST) is a key component in Blacktown’s International Sportspark Masterplan. BEST seeks to provide sports and health facilities to elite international athletes as well as the wider community. In doing so, BEST’s mission is to improve participation and develop skills and fitness across a wide spectrum of different sports.
The project’s concept and schematic design was completed to ARM Architecture. The design is influenced by features and cultures within the local area including Indian temples Chinese gardens and bathhouses. The construction materials and methodologies have been strongly influenced by the concepts used within sport equipment and clothing. Each area within the building has been designed to address the specific operations being accommodated whether it be sports science, health or community engagement
The academy accommodation will offer accommodation for up to 100 people per night, catering for travelling sports teams allowing them to benefit from the on-site hospitality, recovery facilities and extensive training facilities.
CO.OP Studio was engaged to deliver the project from design development through to construction (working in collaboration with ARM). CO.OP worked hand in hand with Buildcorp to deliver the project utilising pre-fabricated unitised building components to address the complexities within the buildings form in a cost effective manner.
